| We are all familiar with the health and environmental benefits of organically grown food, but what about the clothes we wear? Non-organic cotton is one of the most intensively farmed crops in the world and accounts for one quarter of global pesticide use. By growing cotton organically, people and the planet are protected. Here are a few reasons why organic cotton is the only choice for a more sustainable future: - Over 8000 chemicals can be used to turn cotton into a t-shirt. 20,000 deaths occur in developing countries each year from poisoning by agricultural pesticides used on crops, of which many can be attributed to cotton. Pesticides and insecticides harm natural habits. |
|
- In some areas, the cost of chemicals is now reaching 60% of farmers' production costs, causing intolerable debts for millions of poor farmers. - Crop rotation is at the core of organic crop production, providing nutrients to the soil, helping prevent pest, weed and disease problems and maintaining the soil structure. (Source: PAN-UK) The soft organic jersey used for our t-shirt and nightwear is grown using traditional farming methods like crop rotation, hand weeding and biological pest control to produce crops with minimal harm to the people and the planet. Non-toxic dyes are also used, resulting in less damage to the environment and no chemical next to your skin. Our organic t-shirts and nightwear are available in a choice of colours and styles to suit all shapes and tastes, so there really is no reason why you can't be stylish, comfortable and guilt free! | Most of our boots and slippers continue to be handmade by us in our own factory in Newquay, Cornwall. We employ over 40 staff including skilled cutters, machinists, gluers, finishers, checkers and warehouse staff who all work together to ensure that all our footwear is the very best quality and fit that it can possibly be. Last year we were delighted to announce that most of our clothing has also be sourced from either UK or European suppliers. Working with local suppliers enables us to bring you exclusive and high quality products at great prices. Buying locally means that we reduce our carbon footprint and help to protect the environment. We are also supporting the UK manufacturing and providing jobs for UK residents. |

All our sheepskin, leather, suede and cowhides are by-products of the food industry, ensuring that nothing goes to waste. Our high-quality products are built to last and we offer a resole and repair service for boots, to prolong their life. In 2007 we launched a range of recycled wool skirts and jackets. Using Recycled Wool is beneficial for the environment as it creates less pollution by reducing water and energy use. We are currently trying to source more recycled wool products, so watch this space! We actively promote recycling in our factory, warehouse and offices. 11.5 tonnes of cardboard was recycled through 2007. We use recycled plastic bags, pol-wrap and all our delivery, gift boxes, tissue and void fill for packaging are 100% recycled and compostable. All paper, card, pallets, tins, plastics, ink & toner cartridges, catalogues and magazines are recycled.

We believe that using natural fibres is better for our customers as well as the environment. Unlike synthetic fibres that are mainly derived from petrochemicals and rely on precious non-renewable resources, natural fibres are sustainable and do not pose a health risk from direct exposure or from secondary exposure through soil, water and air pollution.
| This is why we opt for luxurious natural fibres for all our clothing and homewares. In our currently collection these include: organic cotton, lambs wool, bamboo, alpaca, merino, leather, sheepskin, suede, goat hide, angora and cashmere. View our range of organic products by clicking here. |
